Welcome to My World

04/10/2013

Hi. I am Urvashi. Born and brought up in beautiful Kenya and now living in the UK for over 20 years.

My life revolves around my husband and my 3 lovely children. My world for the past 22 years has been my kitchen and my spice cabinet although I have ventured out in many areas but always ended up in the kitchen.

When I was younger I once read somewhere ‘a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach’ and in my naivety I started to learn how to cook. I was always intrigued by how to create different tastes, flavours and was always ready to try out a new recipe.
My fondest childhood memories are of sitting on the kitchen stool and watching my mum cook, savouring in all the aromas. Never would she measure or weigh any ingredient and the end result was always perfect.

In this blog I will share some of the recipes I learned over the years …. many from my mum, some from my mother in law, few of my own creation and others from either various recipe books or TV shows.

I believe all spices have their own qualities and benefits on ones body, mind and soul. I always like to add a pinch of a relevant spice to a recipe, depending on the weather, the general health and/or mood of my family. That also gives the dish a little twist.

I have inherited the interest and passion for cooking from my mum and she has always been my greatest inspiration and will continue to be and hopefully my daughters will also benefit from all my recipes.
